Note: Thank you for your thoughts. I stopped posting your letters because I can't keep up.
I personally think America has to re-think what the twin towers really meant. We in England keep being told that when they were destroyed democracy, morality and freedom were destroyed with them. Forgive my ignorance but I thought the WTC was a set of businesses, money-making businesses. Offices, shops etc. I had always thought this building was a huge centre of commerce and financial profit-making, just to push the point. Is that what freedom and democracy means? If this is so, could somebody please let me know so I can plan not to bring any children into this world.
By all means, they should never be removed from the opening credits. Would you tear up a photograph of a deceased loved one just because they've moved on? Of course not! We should never try to sweep our past under the rug. Let it serve to us all as a reminder of September 11th, the darkest day in American history. Let us not become complacent! And let the Twin Towers rise up once again & regain their former glory!
The towers should be removed. america and her people are completely different now in mind body and spirit. don't keep them as a homage to anything. every american knows what happened and they have their own feelings towards the absolute carnage. this is something we will never forget. change the beginning because everything has changed, forever.
Please, Please keep them in. Don't remove them, don't make me cry, I even bought the shirt with the towers just last week. We, the people of NY, love the city, and just because a terrible thing happened there, doesn't mean we have to forget the building, what about christ? he died on the cross didn't he? well people still walk around with crosses on there chains. We are proud to be Americans.
It's my opinion that the towers should remain in the opening sequence to the show. Simply because we have suffered the loss of the symbol of American capitalism and financial fortitude does not mean that we have forgotten nor that we wish to forget what the towers stood for. We don't take down from our walls the pictures of our loved ones simply because they pass away. They remain there to remind us of who they were and what they stood for. The WTC towers are in a sense no different.
KEEP THEM IN!!! We can't allow theses cowards to change our way of life! The towers will always symbolize strength .
I agree, they should keep them. Why change it?? Why make them think they changed us...
I was watching "28 Days" shortly after the WTC attack and got a bit of a jolt when the New York skyline, complete with the WTC's twin towers, appeared briefly in one of the scenes. No, we shouldn't try to erase the images of the WTC. We need to remember how things were, how they are now and continue to envision how much better the world can be. When the producers decide to produce a new opening sequence, they should do it in the context of where the series has been and where it's likely to go, not simply re-do the existing one by re-filming the New York skyline or digitally erasing the towers.
from Australia, What happened in America on the 11th of September was horrific and first of all my deep heartfelt condolences to all family members who lost loved ones and to all Americans who lost their country people in this atrocity. However the shot of the Twin Towers should be removed on account of the fact that The Sopranos is not a timepiece. It evolves with time and changes with time as everyone does. An example of this is Carmela and Phil the Priest, early in the 1st Season, discuss how Tony loves to watch The Godfather 2 on LaserDisc. As we see episodes go by, DVD players are stolen and Tony has a discussion that there are not as many titles on DVD as there were on LaserDisc, then further down the track DVD becomes commonplace within the series (as in reality) with examples such as Anthony Jr buying Carmela The Matrix on DVD for her birthday. Anyway, the Sopranos as I said before is not a timepiece and should move on with the world and not be left behind, as we can see with the LaserDisc and DVD example. I don't know it just wouldn't be the same.
On behalf of everyone i know, I would like to offer my condolences to your country and to let all of you know that we ( the UK ) are behind you and beside you 100%, We will get the fuckers.
Despite the terror that was last associated with the towers on 9-11-01 and our last visual images of the WTC falling a feeling and a vision inside of America's hearts and minds has become real. The feeling of patriotism, unparralled heroism, of never allowing another country, group, person or movement desroy what this country stands for. To remove images from the Sopranos credits or any other film, advertisment, or show would only allow us to forget the lives that were lost. We as a country have vowed never to forget, shouldn't we stand by those vows and continue with images of the WTC? The images should stand as a memorial of those lost and all of us who are affected.
Greetings from soggy Scotland! Leave the WTC towers in the opening credits. They're even more poignant now than ever before. No-one will ever forget Sept 11 and to remove reminders of the towers from shows like the Sopranos, Friends etc would be a crime! Respect, Tony! From Phyl B.
I still watch the first season video's all the time. I always watch for the shot of the Twin Towers during the intro, because it reminds me of what happen that day. We should be reminded. The Soprano's is one of the most watched TV shows in American history. So keep reminding us.
Definitely keep the twin towers shot, they may not be there anymore but they will live on in everyone's heart forever. I don't think they should be removed from any film or T.V. programme at all, we shouldn't forget. I think the opening shot with the WTC towers should stay. Maybe , later on, if the actual destruction of the towers, and the loss of thousands of lives is written into the show, then, maybe then, change it. I think we all need to remember the way we were though. M.P.F.
The WTC was part of the American family, and any evidence of it's existence should continue, consider this,...if you've ever had a family member die would you discard any evidence of their existence or would you embrace it? J.T.
Keep the WTC shot in the credits. We should not hide the skyline shots, nor should we forget them. JCMazzarella
Keep them in as a remembrance of all those who perished in that terrible unbearable tragedy. Cooky
Dear Tony: I like to see the Twin Towers when it opens with the "Blue Moon in your Eye" I have a feeling they will replace the buildings... even if they are only empty replicas of the originals... and we once again have the skyline. Peg
I think they should update it to how it is know, it should become part of the script....let's see their reactions, and how Tony and his crew now relate to the issues being raised about the erosion of privacy and civil liberties. JohnnyO
I am in india. The Sopranos started Airing here in Jan 2001. I have to confess, this is the best thing on T.V ever. About the opening Act , I think they should keep the Twin Towers. I am sure they will be soon put up by you guys. Long live America. Mahesh
I feel very sorry for everyone who have lose an love one in the World Trade Center. But I don't agree to remove that picture out of the opening credits of the Sopranos. For me, seeing the two buildings helps me to cope with what has happen. The World Trade Center building are a part of our history, a trademark for New York, and I don't want to forget it. I can handle seeing old pictures of the buildings and when I do I have to smile. But if others can not handle seeing the old pictures of the buildings then out of respect for them I am OK with not being able to see shots of the World Trade Center. Junise
You have to keep them to remember the souls that have been affected by this. M.R.
I'm a New Yorker born and raised and am finding it very difficult to understand why Hollywood is acting like the WTC never existed; by taking it out of movies and TV shows. The only reason for doing such a thing would be if they were used for a criminal act. Otherwise please keep it in and show it proud every time the Sopranos aires. Thank You. Laura Lynn
I think they should keep the Twin Tower shot in, it's in any way in bad taste at all. Keep it for a remembrance/memorial to the buildings. Phuser1
I personally think that it would be inappropiate to show the Twin Towers considering what happened. Tom
It would seem that they might want to remove the two towers from the opening credits. Mark
Leave them in cause the show is somewhat of American culture. Not to the effect of the twin towers, but that is what the people responsible want for us to just erase it as if it and the lives of those lost were just expendable but it leaves a legacy and the show should keep that legacy going. The intro credits should remain the same as if nothing ever happened. Drecorleone
Howdy from the south! I make a motion that the producers please consider NOT redoing the opening of the show, if it is under consideration. My reason: If you look in Tony's rear view mirror, there's a great shot of the WTC Twin Towers while he is heading down the NJ Turnpike. Given what has happened, I think it's a great rememberance! Bill
